The Prince's Highway

 Kilometer
500-2500

The 1000km journey from Melboune to Sydney is a beautiful drive down the Prince's Highway. All along there are wonderful beaches, exotic lookout points, and fantastic national parks. Here are the sights as I came across them...

Wollongong Industrial Complex, My First Night's Bushcamp

The blowhole at Kiamba (60m spout!), A flooded river causes concern

When I arrived at tiny Pebbley Beach, I had no idea that it was such a fantastic place. I had planned on spending just an hour or so, but I ended up staying all day photographing the kangaroos (my first sighting!) and the unbelievable birds you can spot on the nature hikes.

A splendid class of kids from Bermagui School and a nearby beach

Greenpoint Lighthouse station and entering the state of Victoria

Shop where I bought a fishing setup, View of port Lake's Entrance, just outside Phillip Island

The Den of Nargun, a special place for Aboriginals and a 100km sidetrip from the Prince's Highway, along with a 2 hour hike... They believe a half-stone/half-man creature lives in the cave. All I saw living there were some frogs.

Koala Country -- Phillip Island (a natural stop for me) is famous for the Koala population on the island. I wasn't disappointed, though the creatures aren't very exciting because they sleep about 20 hours a day... Still, they're quite cute. And no, I didn't run any over yet!

A day trip to Wilson's Promontory, a cape about 200km from Melbourne. I went with some friends I met in Phillip Island -- hello Gustav & Johann (Sweden), Hugh (Ireland), Anna (Holland), and Laura (Viva Italia!) -- The guys were quite tired after our ambitious 20km trek...
