A mockingbird made a dash into the side of the vehicle.
Apr 10: Tablelands Highway, Northern Territory
A mockingbird was unceremoniously crushed against the roo bar
when I approached a flock of them and one was just a little too
slow.
Apr 11: Tablelands Highway, Northern Territory
Serious incident. A wedge-tailed eagle, Australia's
biggest bird with a wing span of over 2 meters and weighing up
to 20 kilos, was munching on a kangaroo roadkill. As I approached
at almost 120kph, I was sure it would take flight. The kangaroo
was fresh, however, and the eagle wasn't ready to depart. At the
last second, it fled and crushed the top of the Landcruiser canopy
spraying feathers, fesces, and a kangaroo leg all over the top
of the vehicle. A large dent resulted.
Apr 11: Tablelands Highway, Northern Territory
Soon after the eagle incident, two more mockingbirds commited
suicide into the side of the truck.
May 15: Hume Highway, just outside Airlie Beach
Yet another stupid bird crashed into my windshield.
